5 Natural Ways to Stop Sweating

Hyperhidrosis, or heavy sweating, can be caused for many reasons associated with several underlying health conditions (i.e., thyroid issues, hormonal issues, etc.). Excessive sweating can vary among patients, either affecting one specific area (i.e., underarms, head, hands, or feet) or the whole body. Although not life-threatening, hyperhidrosis can be uncomfortable and cause quite a bit of embarrassment, social anxiety, and mental trauma. Certain lifestyle tips can both manage and trigger excessive sweating. For example, eating spicy foods may make the symptoms worse. 

However, there are several natural ways that patients can decrease sweating as well:

1. Drink plenty of water

By drinking cold water, you will help lower your body’s core temperature. This is the opposite of drinking hot liquids, which will raise it almost instantly. When you first start to notice your body temperature rising, drink one glass of cold water, and decrease the amount of physical activity that you are doing. Also, steering clear of caffeinated beverages (i.e., coffee, soda, black teas) can also help minimize sweating throughout the day. 

2. Apple cider vinegar

One natural way that may help reduce sweating is adding apple cider vinegar into your diet. By sipping or incorporating ACV into your daily diet, you can change your PH levels to help minimize sweating. To stop sweating quickly, you can also rub the apple cider vinegar directly onto parts of your body that are producing a large amount of unwanted sweat. Be sure to blot lightly onto the skin while applying the vinegar to avoid messy application and stained clothing.

3. Natural antiperspirant

Natural antiperspirants may be recommended by your doctor to lessen sweating. For instance, Native natural antiperspirant, can be purchased online or at a local health food store and worn to greatly reduce the amount of sweat your body is releasing. By using a natural product, you can also avoid any toxic or harmful ingredients that may cause your body to have a reaction after the application. To make a DIY deodorant at home, try combining coconut oil with baking soda, which is gentle on sensitive skin. 

4. Avoid spicy foods

Even if you if you are a spicy food lover, if you are prone to excessive sweating, it’s ideal to remove spices from your diet. Foods to avoid are hot peppers, garlic, onions, and any spices that are labeled mild or hot. Once you start eliminating spicy foods out of your life, you will start noticing changes in how much sweat your body is producing.

5. Sage

Sage has been used as an all-natural hyperhidrosis treatment for eons. The dried herb helps to control sweating by reducing pores and odor-causing bacteria thanks to the tannic acids within.  

For a delicious and natural way to reduce sweating, try steeping fresh or dried sage into a tea. You can also apply safe typically as an antiperspirant directly to skin to help eliminate odor and sweat emission.
